Chacruna, Psychotria viridis- Ayahuacsa admixture
There are approximately 1,200 to 1,400 Psychotria species which belong to the Coffee family Rubiacea with most being found in tropical zones of Central and South America. In Peru, Ecuador, Columbia and parts of Brazil the leaves of Chacruna, Psychotria viridis are commonly brewed together with Ayahuasca, Banisteriopsis caapi to make the ceremonially healing medicine known as Yage.
If used alone Chacruna leaves are not active but in conjunction with the beta carbolines present in the Ayahuasca vine which temporally inhibits monoamine oxidase function rendering the alkaloids orally active. Chacruna leaves contain N,N-DMT, This is what brings light and visions to the experience.
