Yellow Horned Poppy Extract, Glaucium flavum
This Extract is made from the rare Yellow Horned Poppy, Glaucium flavum. The people of Norway & Denmark in the times of the Vikings used to use Yellow Horned Poppy but very little information was ever written down and only certain shamans had the knowledge about special plants like this. The active alkaloid in Yellow Horned Poppy is known as Glaucine and has the same effects as Codeine. This is a VERY STRONG extract and the recommended dose is 50 mg to 200 mg. The effect is similar to opiates, pleasant feelings of great exaltation and euphoric. This alkaloid is related to protopin. It can be taken orally or smoked.
No adverse drug interactions are registered so far with Yellow Horned Poppy Extract. Rarely in high doses the following symptoms may appear: fatigue, dizziness, blood pressure decrease, nausea, and vomiting. Glaucium flavum should be used with care for people with unstable and low arterial pressure, as a risk of collapse exists due to the adrenolytice activity of the preparatione. It is also better not to use if suffering from a very bad cough, because it may cause retention of the bronchial secretion and bronchiale obturatione. Although no data exist concerning the embryotoxic and teratogenic effect of the Glucine, it should be used with care or even better not at all in pregnant and nursing women.
This is a non-narcotic antitussive preparation with central action. The active component of the alkaloid is from the plant Glucinum flavum. Glaucine depresses the cough center, causing no effect on the respiratory center. It does not cause drug dependence. Although the preparation exerts a weak spasmolytic effect, it does not influence intestinal motor function and does not cause constipation. Glaucine possesses some analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions. Glaucine and two of its structural analogues exerted an inhibitory effect on phosphodiesteras activity in different tissue homogenatese.
In experiments on rats Glucine applied intraperitoneally significantly increased the brain level of dopamine (DA) and did not change the content of noradrenaline and serotonin (5 HT). The combined application of L DOPA and Glaucine or Glaucine derivatives produced a higher increase in brain DA than the increase which would be expected by simple summation of the effects of L DOPA and Glaucine and of the Glaucine derivatives respectively. At the same time L-DOPA and Glaucine, applied together, caused a slighter decrease of brain 5 HT than the decreases produced by the same dose of L DOPA when the latter was applied alone. It is suggested that the higher increase of brain DA produced by the combination of L DOPA and the phosphodiesterase inhibitor. Glaucine or its structural analogues is mainly due to the increased c-amp level.
